(Note: The picture above is from an actual patient of Dr. Baker’s) Studies have shown when used in conjunction with Western fertility treatments, acupuncture increases conception rates by 26%. A recent study reports, ““When combining IUI with TCM treatments, 65.5 percent of the test group were able to conceive, compared with 39.4 percent of the control group, who received no herbal or acupuncture therapy.” For the 4.5 million couples experiencing infertility each year, acupuncture may be just what the doctor ordered.

Acupuncture for fertility

Acupuncture is based on the theory that vital energy flows through the body along certain pathways. Acupuncturists try to balance this energy and restore health by stimulating specific points along the pathways with thin needles.

In response to the message, the brain releases chemicals such as calming neurotransmitters and pain-relieving endorphins, the body’s natural opioid, to the area of pain or blockage.  The acupuncture needle also works locally to open up blood flow and reduce inflammation.

How does acupuncture boost fertility?

It is thought that the increased blood flow helps boost fertility by stimulating the ovaries to produce healthy eggs as well as enriching the endometrial lining in the uterus. The rich endometrial lining helps to ensure the eggs will be held to term. Acupuncture also helps to relax the uterus and stop contractions, so blood flow increases and an embryo successfully implants.

Balanced Body Acupuncture & Chiropractor in Omaha

Dr. Baker has worked in conjunction with the top fertility doctors in the Omaha metro area. Most fertility transfers occur on a Saturday or Sunday and you will see Dr. Baker making special weekend arrangements for these patients.

The patient’s partner will text Dr. Baker that morning and let him know when the IVF or IUI procedure is complete and leaving the hospital. The patient will be driven to Balanced Body Acupuncture & Chiropractic for her acupuncture treatment. Dr. Baker gives her extra treatment time to relax and let their body take over in the process.

We Recommend

Patients seeking fertility treatment start 1-2 months prior to IVF or their IUI. We have objective testimonials from patients who report their fertility doctor seeing almost twice the required amount of uterine thickness for implantation on ultrasound. Move over, acupuncture causes your luteal phase of progesterone last the 12 -14 days for implantation to actually occur.

We have numerous patients who have experienced this and keep coming back for subsequent pregnancies. In addition to a thickened uterine lining, we have patients whose fertility doctor has reported the quality of eggs has increased drastically. This means that not only is the lining thicker for implantation, but a healthy egg and sperm means a healthy baby. The fertility doctors grade the eggs alphabetically and numerically during ultrasound retrieval.

Male infertility

Dr. Baker has performed acupuncture treatments targeting either low sperm count or decreased quality of sperm and seen excellent results as well. The fertility doctors are able to analyze this under a microscope and see the progression. A few studies have shown that regular treatments significantly improve sperm counts and motility.
